When Do Water Lilies Bloom on Skadar Lake?
White water lilies on the channels from Rijeka Crnojevića flower from late May into mid-July. Later in the summer the northern shallows can still look green. The national park says white and yellow water lilies and kasaronja cover large areas of water in those months, and that cover is not the same thing as the white flowers still being open.
When are the white flowers out?
From late May to mid-July, on the still channels between Rijeka Crnojevića and the open lake. That is the window on the route we run. June sits in the middle of it.
The National Parks of Montenegro describe the northern shore as shallow and flooded, and they name white water lily (bijeli lokvanj), yellow water lily (žuti lokvanj), and kasaronja as the floating plants that cover large surfaces during the summer months. That is cover, not a flowering date. A green bay in August can still be past the white bloom on this route.
Why do some guides say the flowers last until September?
They usually mix three plants into one season, or they describe the green cover as if it were the white flowers. Visitor pages put the bloom anywhere from May into August or September. The park's plant note does not. It says the floating species cover large areas in the summer months, and it lists white water lily, yellow water lily, and kasaronja separately.
Kasaronja is the plant that gets called a late lily. The leaves are diamond-shaped and toothed, not round pads, and they turn reddish as autumn comes. People around the lake also spell it kasoronja. The park writes kasoranja. The October guide sets out what it is, and that it is protected. If you came for a white flower standing off a round pad, you want late May to mid-July.
Where do you see them from a boat?
In the shallow channels on the way from Rijeka Crnojevića toward the open lake, not out on the open water and not from the road. Pavlova Strana looks down on the horseshoe bend. From that railing you see a green surface. You do not see the flowers the way you do from a boat beside them.
We stay in the open water next to the mats. We do not push the boat into the beds. The Public Enterprise for National Parks of Montenegro has asked boat operators to respect the rules and protect this vegetation. The look is from alongside, at a slow pace.
Can you pick a water lily?
No. Picking white and yellow water lilies in Skadar Lake National Park is prohibited. The park enterprise said so again on 23 September 2026. In May 2024 it had already called picking an illegal activity, because the plants are part of the habitat and taking the flowers weakens them. Birds, fish, and insects use that cover. Leave the flowers on the water.
Which tour reaches the lily channels?
The Amazon Tour does. It is one hour and €85 for the private boat. Open Lake plus the Amazon channels is €95 and about one hour and twenty minutes. The Complete Tour is €120 and about one hour and forty minutes, and it adds the canyon and Karuč to those channels. The half-hour Canyon Tour and the open-lake hour do not spend the trip in the lily channels.

Say you want the flowers when you book, and come between late May and mid-July. Outside that window the same channels are willows, reeds, and birds, which is a good trip and a different one.
